Common uses:

Fennel is also a very well know herb that is a popular salad ingredient in summer. This is referring to the bulb of course, as the leaves has a strong and pungent licorice scent that can easily over power any dish. The fennel that forms the bulb is generally known as Florence fennel. There are also a regular variety as well as a bronze variety. Medicinally, they both have similar uses and compounds. Fennel is known as the slimmer’s herb and frequently used to aid in weight loss and to control hunger. It is also a potent anti-fungal herb. Fennel is good for digestive problems like bloating, heartburn and flatulence.

Growing:

Fennel is a fast growing annual and can be a short-lived perennial in temperate climates. They will grow a decent size bulb in the first season and does not like pots. They will need a weekly watering and benefit from a good mulch.
